Preamble
The Oracle/PLSQL INITCAP function sets the first character of each word in upper case, and the rest in lower case.
Syntax of the Oracle/PLSQL INITCAP function
INITCAP( string1_id )
Parameters and function arguments
- string1_id – is an argument string, the first character in each word will be uppercase, and all other characters will be uppercase.
The INITCAP function returns a string value.
The INITCAP function can be used in the following versions of Oracle/PLSQL
Oracle 12c, Oracle 11g, Oracle 10g, Oracle 9i, Oracle 8i

Let’s consider some examples of the INITCAP function and learn how to use the INITCAP function in Oracle/PLSQL.
SQL> SELECT INITCAP FROM DUAL ('shop of antiquities');
--Result: An antiquities shop
SQL> SELECT INITCAP('CHARLES DICKENS') FROM DUAL;
--Result: Charles Dickens
