Preamble
Oracle/PLSQL CURRENT_DATE function returns the current date in the time zone of the current SQL session as set with the ALTER SESSION comman.
Oracle/PLSQL syntax of function CURRENT_DATE
CURRENT_DATE
Parameters and function arguments
- There are no parameters or arguments for the function CURRENT_DATE.
Function CURRENT_DATE returns date.
The function CURRENT_DATE can be used in the following Oracle/PLSQL versions
Oracle 12c, Oracle 11g, Oracle 10g, Oracle 9i

The CURRENT_DATE function can be used in Oracle.
If the ALTER SESSION command was started:
ALTER SESSION SET TIME_ZONE = '-3:0';
And execute the next SQL query:
select CURRENT_DATE from dual;
You will get the following result:
30.07.2014 15:51:02
Then you will change the time zone with the ALTER SESSION command:
CHANGE SESSION SET TIME_ZONE = '-7:0';
And execute the next SQL query:
select CURRENT_DATE from dual;
you will get the following result:
30.07.2014 8:51:02
The time zone of the session has changed from -3:0 to -7:0, as a result of which the function CURRENT_DATE will return the current date as a value 4 hours less.
