Preamble
The Oracle/PLSQL LOWER function converts all characters in a specified string into lower case. If there are characters in the string that are not letters, they do not affect this function.
Syntax of the Oracle/PLSQL LOWER function
LOWER( string1_id )
Parameters and function arguments
- string1_id – string for lowercase conversion.
The LOWER function returns a string value.
The LOWER function can be used in the following versions of Oracle/PLSQL
Oracle 12c, Oracle 11g, Oracle 10g, Oracle 9i, Oracle 8i

Let’s consider some examples of the LOWER function and learn how to use the LOWER function in Oracle PLSQL.
SQL> SELECT LOWER('Charles Dickens') FROM DUAL;
-result: charles dickens
SQL> SELECT LOWER('CHARLES DICKENS 1812 - 1870 ') FROM DUAL;
-result: charles dickens 1812 - 1870 '
